| In traditional Japanese style, one specific feature that stands out the most is panelling. Whether it’s the walls, doors, partitions or cabinets, those grid lines always play a major part. As we were designing the space for this retiring couple, it became the underlying design element for the entire space. Originally a 3 bedroom apartment, we combined the master bedroom with the adjacent room to create a walk-in closet. The third bedroom was turned into a study/meditation room, with a hidden futon hidden neatly underneath the raised platform for guest sleepovers. We specially made a onzen style bathtub in the guest bathroom to pay tribute to traditional Japanese culture. Nordic soft furnishing and greenery were then delicately hand-picked to infuse a more human touch to complement the zen look. |
